Are you Creating a Life Worth Fighting For?
“If we wait until we’re ready, we’ll wait the rest of our lives.” -Anonymous
We are now in the last month of the year. I don’t know about you, but 2012 has been an amazing year full of lots of successes, challenges and, of course, growth. I’m the type of person who chooses to see everything in my life as learning lessons that help me grow and evolve into someone bigger and better. However, since I’m human just like you, I also have my “human” days, when the challenges just seem too much for me to overcome. When this happens, I remind myself that no matter what difficult circumstances may arise, I will always continue to work hard to create a life worth fighting for. I would rather fight for my ideal, magical life than sit on the sidelines watching life pass me by. So as we head into a new year, I want to ask you a question:
Are you creating a life worth fighting for?
So often, I meet with individuals who tell me their big dreams in life, whether financial or personal, then immediately follow up their list with a litany of reasons why they can’t have them or can’t start working toward them now. It sounds something like this:
“I want to get my finances in order so I can travel around the world/start a business/retire by age 40, but I have to wait until I have more money/finish school/pay off my debts/have time/ get married/the kids are away…”
Whatever the person’s excuses for not pursuing his or her dreams may be, they are just that: Excuses. Plain and simple. It’s much easier to come up with excuses for why you can’t have what you want versus actually putting in the work to fulfill your dreams. We all love to come up with excuses that validate our decisions to wait until we’re ready to get started achieving our goals in life. But what are we actually waiting for? A magical sign to tell us it’s time to get started? Because let me tell you, if you wait for that, you’ll be waiting forever. No matter the obstacles, you have to decide to take control of your life and get started now on working toward achieving your dreams and goals. The first step is the decision to create a life worth fighting for. From there, you take the next one, and so forth.
Just remember to actually take things step by step. When you do this, you’ll quickly realize how much progress you’ve made toward creating the life of your dreams, and you’ll also realize that the work really wasn’t as hard as you imagined it to be.
As we head into the final weeks of the year, I have a challenge for you. If you’ve been playing small or pushing your desires aside because of excuses X,Y or Z, decide today to start living a life worth fighting for. It’s never too early or too late to start. The time is now. You’re ready. Remember that we’re all in this together. I’m right there with you, and sometimes it feels scary to go after what I really want in life. But I’d rather be scared than play small. I’m working hard to create a life worth fighting for, and I want you to do the same. Start taking the necessary steps to create the life you dream of. I believe you can have everything your heart desires.
You deserve it.
