How I Dealt with a $10,000 Tax Bill
I’ve been in the financial planning business for a decade now, and over the past 10 years, as you might expect, I’ve learned a lot about money.
In fact, money is my favorite topic. I love spreading the Financially Wise Women message because I know that when I was just getting started on my financial journey, I would have loved for someone to be there to educate me about saving, debt, investment, insurance and retirement.
One of the most important things I teach is the concept of saving money. It’s something we all struggle with–after all, it’s hard to sock away money each month. Life is expensive. Emergencies happen. Believe me, I totally get it.
In fact, in 2014, just 6 months after I started Financially Wise Women, I was hit with a $10,000 tax bill.
I mean, $10,000?! That’s not pocket change.
As a new business owner, money wasn’t quite pouring in the door yet.
And if I did happen to have $10,000 laying around, I’d much rather spend hop a plane to Santorini, Greece or buy these 1,000-thread-count, organic Egyptian cotton, non-toxic luxury hotel sheets I’ve been eyeing for months now.
But hopping a plane or rolling around in new sheets was out of the question. Uncle Sam was knocking on my door and I had to answer.
Looking back, I’m so grateful that I had the foresight to create 5 financial habits that have allowed me to build up my rainy day fun. Or, in this case, my “OMG!” fund.
Yet I know that I’m a rare unicorn, the odd person who does pay herself first and has always had a cash cushion since landing my first job. And I want to teach you how to create these same habits, habits of money saving women.
That’s why I’m hosting a live masterclass on Tuesday, July 19, to teach you 5 Habits of Money Saving Women.
During this 60 minute live Masterclass, I’ll teach you how to:
Get your head in the financial game
Break down your monthly budget without giving up your daily latte
Automate your savings monthly without missing a beat
Date your money and bring love into your relationship with it
Stop sweating the small stuff and focus on big wins to succeed.
If you’ve ever felt lost, confused and overwhelmed about how exactly to get ahead with your money, this masterclass is for you.
I’m so passionate about this topic that I’m offering the masterclass twice: once at 12 p.m. PST and once at 5 p.m. PST so that everyone, from East Coast to West Coast and everywhere in between, can join in.
There’s no excuse to miss it!
